After the retirement of Manuel Medina-Mora, Stephen Bird will step up as head of the global consumer bank of Citigroup Inc., a division that earned $6.82 billion in 2014. The nomination will be effective as of June 1.

Bird started his career at Citigroup by running the operations and technology in Asia Pacific and then in Latin America, and successfully built the group’s technological and operational capability to deliver customer service. After that, he was head of credit cards and consumer finance in Japan for four years, before running consumer banking in Asia Pacific with more than 30 million customer accounts. Currently Chief Executive Officer of Citi Asia Pacific, Bird is responsible for all the company's business lines across 17 markets in the region, and led the business to achieve record revenue in last year’s third quarter.

His track record has earned the praise of Michael Corbat, CEO of Citigroup: “In various roles in Asia, Stephen has helped establish Citi as a leading bank, significantly increasing net income by focusing on target clients across the region.”
