The Global Firm Morgan Lewis & Bockius added nine new partners to their practice in China on january. The new team has vast experience on public and private mergers and acquisitions, investment, capital markets, private equity and venture capital, technology and emerging companies, and corporate joint ventures. The team led by Edwin Luk will join the existing china’s branch of the firm which already had seven partners.

Luk served as global head on capital markets at Orrick and is one of the most respected lawyers in Hong Kong. Other members of the team include high ranked lawyers like Ning Zhang, June Chan, Keith Cheung, Connie Cheung, Louise Liu, Billy Wong and Mathew Lewis. Some members of the team have already worked together. In 2015, Luk and Cheung participated on a $794 million initial public offering representing Bank of Jinzhou Co Ltd on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange; and also advised Chinese brokerage Guolian Securities Co. Ltd. on a $454 million Hong Kong listing.

The firm plans to fill a petition to register as a foreign law firm in Hong Kong in the near future and expects to add forty more highly qualified lawyers to their office in china. Jami Mckeon, current chairman of the firm has commented on this subject saying “we have long recognized the importance of Hong Kong as one of the world principal financial centers and we have been looking for just the right team”. This, following the firms’ objective of creating a Solid practice in Asia. In the recent years the firm has expanded their offices in Tokyo and Singapore.
