Leaders League: What are the upcoming issues for TozziniFreire in the next five years?

Fernando Serec: Our expansion together with the fortification of our brand TozziniFreire were built on complex cases that the firm has encountered in different practice areas, each highly specialized.

Our firm closely assists its clients while keeping a keen eye on the market. This allows us to anticipate the trends of the market, which originate the creation of key practices, as compliance & investigation, life sciences, or infrastructure, among others. We figured out that it actually exists a space for growth in antitrust, litigation and arbitration, tax, social and corporate.

While looking for a constant evolution, this year, in partnership with Latin Finance and a Management & Excellence (M&E), TozziniFreire conducted a study with main executives from domestic or international companies in order to identify the areas that aroused concerns, or the hot legal topics that have been at the heart of the discussions lately. We strongly believe that the versatility and the high quality of our professionals represent a real asset, which enables our firm to be differentiated in the market.

L.L. What are the main challenges your firm experiences presently?

F.S. I would say our main challenges remain to keep the high quality of our work and to offer services always more differentiated for our clients. The firm needs to constantly innovate and seek to improve internal processes in order to outperform our clients’ expectations.

In the satisfaction survey that we undertake every year, we could perceive that one of our strengths, mentioned by our clients, was our combination between full-service organization together with the close client relations maintained by our partners. Therefore, an ongoing challenge the firm is facing is to build a solid relationship with the client who brings ever more complex cases.

L.L. What is the firm’s recruitment policy?

F.S. TozziniFreire has a solid career plan elaborated in the '90s, and still applicable today. This plan values training and development of our professionals. However, we are fully aware we cannot put aside external talents that emerged in the market following our commitment to remain highly proficient. Those last years, we made some lateral hires not only in compliance, but also in antitrust, corporate, arbitration and real estate.
